Slaton Area Endowment Grant Story: Slaton Harvey House

The Slaton Harvey House has a new curb sign made possible with a grant from the Slaton Area Endowment. The updated board replaces signage that had been in front of the Harvey House for 15 years. The new sign helps improve the organization’s visibility to passing traffic and the ability of visitors to find Slaton Harvey House. The nonprofit wrote, “The 15-year-old worn-out sign has been replaced with a permanent and beautiful sign that reflects the building’s architecture and presents a much-improved image for the Harvey House.”

The historic bed and breakfast and event center first opened in 1912 by the Fred Harvey Company and closed in 1942 but continued as a passenger and freight depot for many years. According to the organization’s site, “The building went into disrepair after ATS&F ceased operations from Slaton and was facing demolition when a group of locals and others with close connections mounted a successful effort to save and revive this landmark of Slaton and the Lubbock area.” Since reopening over ten years ago, Slaton Harvey House has provided Lubbock area travelers and residents with a unique and timeless experience. Outside of being a B&B, the Harvey House hosts events like reunions, parties, and weddings. The organization also offers in-house planning, floral, and catering.
